About J'Nique Nicole

J'Nique Nicole is an American singer-songwriter and lyricist based in Tokyo, Japan. She is best known for her songwriting and vocal contributions to NIER: AUTOMATA, the critically acclaimed and award-winning action RPG from Square Enix, for which she wrote the English lyrics and performed vocals on the main theme, "Weight of the World," as well as standout tracks including "A Beautiful Song" and "Memories of Dust." "A Beautiful Song" was featured during Japan's synchronized swimming routine at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, introducing her voice to a global audience of hundreds of millions.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, J'Nique spent her early childhood between Nashville and Yokota Air Force Base in Tokyo before returning to Japan in 2012 to pursue a career in music. She began performing in intimate venues — lounges, clubs, and private events — and steadily built a reputation that earned her a first major performance as a backing vocalist for Grammy Award-winning artist Ashanti in October 2013. Since then, she has participated in 13 major tours, including AI's Wa to Yo tour, Toshinobu Kubota's LOK and Beautiful People tours, and the NIER: ORCHESTRA CONCERT 12024 world tour spanning North America, Europe, the UK, and Asia.

Her work on NIER: AUTOMATA — which has sold over nine million units globally — earned J'Nique an Outstanding Solo Artist award, and the soundtrack itself won Best Score/Soundtrack at The Game Awards. She has continued to build her game music credentials with her role as the vocalist for Elena's theme, "Beats in My Heart," in STREET FIGHTER 6, and with contributions to FOAMSTARS ("Miracle Groovin'," "Rainbow Overload," "High on Life"), GRAN SAGA ("Elusive Freedom," composed by Yoko Shimomura), and GIRLS' FRONTLINE ("A Moment in My Nightmares"). Beyond games, she has contributed to the anime BYE BYE EARTH with "Sacred Ashes Butterfly" (composed by Kevin Penkin), and to the COWBOY BEBOP live-action soundtrack with "Cat Attack Part I."

An accomplished collaborator on the Japanese R&B scene, J'Nique has worked alongside Toshinobu Kubota, AI, HIRAIDAI, and Ryuji Imaichi. Although equally capable of singing in Japanese and English, she primarily writes and performs in English. Her debut solo album, THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING (2021), was entirely self-written, self-arranged, and executive produced, with its second single, "BAE," earning a semi-finalist placement in the International Songwriting Competition.

J'Nique Nicole is represented by Scarlet Moon Artists outside of Japan and is available for videogame vocal, lyric writing, and songwriting commissions. With her voice heard on Game Awards-winning soundtracks, at the Summer Olympics, and across some of gaming's most iconic franchises, she brings power, versatility, and global recognition to every project.
