About Shinji Hosoe
While Shinji Hosoe discovered his musical talent relatively late, deeply immersing himself in the world of synthesizers in junior high, he quickly started performing with bands and became a pioneer in the videogame industry by joining the sound team at Namco in 1986. His first title, DRAGON SPIRIT, remains one of his most popular in a long line of contributions he's made to the biggest videogame franchises around the globe. While at Namco, Hosoe created music for the iconic TEKKEN and RIDGE RACER series, establishing himself as a master of electronic music and fusion while also making a name for himself in the shoot-'em-up (shmup) space with soundtracks to several classic arcade titles.
In 1996, Hosoe left Namco to take up a role with development studio Arika to work on STREET FIGHTER EX with Capcom, BUSHIDO BLADE with Squaresoft, and TETRIS for Nintendo. Around this time, he also formed a Yellow Magic Orchestra parody band with other game music composers called Oriental Magnetic Yellow. In 2000, he struck out on his own and formed SuperSweep, a music production team and record label that has become a fan-favorite label for releasing soundtracks to games modern and retro alike along with numerous solo works.
With SuperSweep, Hosoe has composed music for the MEGA MAN, XENOSAGA, DRAGON BALL, and POKEMON franchises as well as for games such as UNDER DEFEAT, 999: NINE HOURS, NINE PERSONS, NINE DOORS, ZERO ESCAPE: VIRTUE'S LAST REWARD, and PROTECT ME KNIGHT. SuperSweep also contributed to F-ZERO AX/GX. Hosoe has become known as a leading remixer and arranger, contributing to official remix albums for Nintendo (DR. MARIO, METROID FUSION), Capcom (MEGA MAN), Sega (PHANTASY STAR), and Gung-Ho (RAGNAROK ONLINE) and often appears on-stage at DJ events throughout Japan.
